Who is Rachel Elnaugh? Ex Dragon’s Den Star, Entrepreneur, Business Speaker, Author and Coach
Best known for her appearances on the first two series of the BBC cult TV show, Dragons Den, Rachel has also experienced the highs and lows of the whole entrepreneurial rollercoaster ride.
Five years ago Rachel’s first business, Red Letter Days, was forced into administration even though they had £3.3 million cash at bank. After a 16 year journey creating the company from nothing more than an idea, on a shoestring budget which built into a multi-million turnover market leading brand she was left with no business, no income, a one week old baby, plus around £1m in personal debt.
It would have been so easy to roll over and die at that moment but that’s not what entrepreneurs do. Instead, she decided use her experiences to help other business people and entrepreneurs on their journey. Through speaking at business events, mentoring and writing her first book ‘Business Nightmares’ Rachel has shown how to stay energised and positive in the face of adversity.
Rachel is also the Entrepreneur in Residence at the British Library Business and IP Centre where every month she gives free mentoring sessions to the entrepreneurs.
We are delighted to have Rachel speaking for us, her journey has been truly unique and she is a true inspiration to everyone who hears her speak.
How will the event help the NSPCC?
The ChildLine service receives thousands of calls from children and young people in distress wanting to talk about a problem they face. In addition to this, caring adults can call the NSPCC Helpline if they are worried about a child’s safety. The support and advice received calms fears, solves problems and, in the most extreme cases, even saves lives.
Imagine for a moment how difficult it is for an abused child to summon up the courage to speak out against their abuser and then imagine how they must feel if their call goes unanswered. The East Midlands ChildLine base answered over 7,000 calls in 2009/10 yet sadly, due to lack of resources, there were still many calls left unanswered and every missed call could put a child in more danger.
We want to help ensure that every child receives the help they need which is why we are supporting the Child’s Voice Appeal. The Appeal aims to expand both helplines by funding more counsellors to answer more calls.
This appeal is a massive investment in a safer future for all children in Nottinghamshire, and across the East Midlands, and a great opportunity for you to participate in such a worthwhile cause. We share the NSPCC’s vision for every child in the country to have access to confidential support through a communication channel they with which they feel comfortable.
