How will the event help the NSPCC?

The ChildLine service receives thousands of calls from children and young people in distress wanting to talk about a problem they face.  In addition to this, caring adults can call the NSPCC Helpline if they are worried about a child’s safety.  The support and advice received calms fears, solves problems and, in the most extreme cases, even saves lives.

Imagine for a moment how difficult it is for an abused child to summon up the courage to speak out against their abuser and then imagine how they must feel if their call goes unanswered.  The East Midlands ChildLine base answered over 7,000 calls in 2009/10 yet sadly, due to lack of resources, there were still many calls left unanswered and every missed call could put a child in more danger.

We want to help ensure that every child receives the help they need which is why we are supporting the Child’s Voice Appeal.  The Appeal aims to expand both helplines by funding more counsellors to answer more calls.

This appeal is a massive investment in a safer future for all children in Nottinghamshire, and across the East Midlands, and a great opportunity for you to participate in such a worthwhile cause.  We share the NSPCC’s vision for every child in the country to have access to confidential support through a communication channel they with which they feel comfortable.
