From 6 April 2010 the minimum age that pension benefits can be taken rises from 50 to 55.
Even if you were not thinking or retiring in the traditional sense this change could still affect you. If you were thinking of taking any benefits from your pension, for example the tax free lump sum, income or indeed both and you are aged between 50 and 54 you have until 6th April 2010

The National Equality Panel has reported that the gaps in UK society are “deep seated and systematic” with the gap between rich and poor being wider now than 40 years ago. However it went on to say that the earnings gap between men and women had decreased slightly under Labour as had the educational qualifications of different ethnic groups

As predicted the UK economy came out of recession in the last quarter of 2009.
However, the official figures showing growth of just 0.1% hardly make good reading, it should be remembered we are the last major economy to come out of recession and whilst other countries bounced out it the UK is limping slowly. Compounding the disappointing news the figures also showed that output fell by a record 4.8% in 2009.
The low growth figure has left many discussing the possibility of a ‘double dip’ recession and will, for the time being, probably encourage ...

Figures to be published later today are expected to show that the UK finally came out of recession in the last quarter of 2009.
The UK Economy has contracted for last 18 months, and was the last major economy still in recession. Many economists expected the UK to have emerged from recession in the third quarter of 2009, and were taken by surprise by the continued contraction of the economy
